After the briefing you climb into the Taurus foothills behind Side, riding packed dirt, loose stone, pine-shaded forest tracks and shallow river crossings that send up a cool spray. In summer the trails run dusty; after rain they turn deliciously muddy. Between the harder sections the ground opens onto pine slopes and long views back over the plain toward the sea. You are in charge of your own throttle the entire way, with a guide leading the pace and a sweep rider keeping everyone together, so you can attack the trail or take it steady, whatever suits you.
