The ground behind Kumköy
Kumköy's own strip is sand, hotel gardens and umbrella pine — flat, tidy and no use whatsoever to a buggy. The riding country starts inland, where irrigation tracks between the fields give way to stony forest lanes and climb into the Taurus foothills above the river valleys. Expect loose dust in high summer, churned mud after rain, rutted pine tracks and shallow water crossings where the stream runs straight across the trail and nobody stays dry. Your guide reads the surface ahead and sets the pace for the whole convoy, so the awkward sections are taken at a speed the least confident driver can hold.
The buggy: two seats inside one steel cage
These are side-by-sides, not quads. You sit next to your partner instead of behind them — a proper car-style steering wheel, pedals, seatbelts on both seats and a welded roll cage overhead. Helmets and goggles are handed out before you move and stay on for the whole route; in the dust sections you will be glad of the goggles. Accident insurance is included.
Sharing the cab is the reason people choose a buggy. Couples swap the wheel at the halfway stop, friends take turns, and a child can ride beside a driving parent — just tell us the child's age when you reserve so we put you in the right vehicle.
Who drives
No driving licence and no previous off-road experience are needed. The driver simply has to be an adult, and ability rather than paperwork decides who takes the wheel:
- A full safety briefing before any engine starts — controls, hand signals, convoy spacing.
- A practice lap on easy ground so you feel the steering, throttle and brakes for yourself.
- Don't feel confident after that lap? You ride as a passenger — same tour, same money, no debate.
- Professional off-road guides run the convoy front and back and will slow the entire group rather than leave anyone struggling.
How the session runs from Kumköy
Our driver calls at your Kumköy hotel at the agreed time and the free transfer takes you to the departure base. Then it is kit up, briefing, practice lap, and the convoy heads inland — photo stops on the high ground, the water crossing, and a breather before the run home. Morning departures give you firmer, cooler tracks; the golden-hour session puts you on the trails in low sunlight, which is when the dust clouds and ridge lines photograph best. Wear clothes and shoes you are happy to ruin, pack a dry change for the ride back, and leave anything that must not get wet at the hotel.
